Since 1927 Caffe Reggio has been located at 119 Macdougal Street, heart of Manhattan's Greenwich Village.
It was also the first coffeehouse to have a cappuccino machine in the USA, for this reason the place is also known as the home of the “original cappuccino”.
The italian founder, Domenico Parisi, decided to use the decoration inspired by italian architecture. He brought to the place an antique bench which belonged to Medici’s family in Florence which is there to represent his roots.
Most of the artwork there has a connection to the Italian Renaissance period.
Greenwich Village was famously known for the American Bohemia movement of the early and mid-20th century. It was known as an artist’s neighborhood with small art galleries, alternative theater, and controversial publications thrived. It was also a home to many political and social movements of the time.
The Caffe Reggio has been featured in many movies, including The Godfather Part II, Next Stop, Greenwich Village, The Kremlin Letter, Shaft, Serpico, The Next Man, In Good Company, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Sun Is Also a Star
